Here is the initial installment in what I hope will be a weekly update as to the goings on here at the children's home.
The flight went very well. Jimmy was there on time to meet me. It helps to be taller than 90% of the population of El Salvador. When I came out of the terminal he was at the back of the crush of people waiting for loved ones. I looked right over the crowd to see a smiling brother in Christ. After a brief rest at his home, went went to the new church. Mireya was there to meet us; a glowing and always beautiful mom-to-be. The service was attended by about 500 people. Terrific music and highly energtic preaching. The potential for this property is extensive. God has worked the incredible just to keep them growing. In a place of great darkness, God is shining a light. To follow Christ is often a true matter of life and death. One young man lives at the church because he has been threatened. That is taking your salvation seriously.
After a decent night's rest we took care of some things in San Salvador and then headed to Remar. There was a certain sense of coming home. Needless to say, I was met with a hurricane of warm hugs. Actually, even now I am not able to go very far without someone wrapping their arms around me. The babies are particularly adorable. I have been a little surprised by how much the older girls enjoy sitting by me with a head on my shoulder or in my lap. Guess everyone can use a "cushy" abuela.
School will be on vacation at the end of this month. We are busy sewing curtains for the dining room, graduation gowns, stoles and caps. The building of the sewing school is to be started in December. While school is out, Mary wants me to focus on teaching English. That will in turn help my less than stellar Spanish.
Met a man here from Ohio on Thursday that has contact with a place that wanted to start a sewing school, but were not able to do so. They have the equipment. He is going to talk to them about whether or not it would be available to us.
Chickens, fish, hogs, tomatoes and peppers are all fairing well. Better than I as I adjust to the climate.
God has walked with me each step of this often hard to understand journey. My church family has walked with and encouraged me as I found my path and time. My family has ever been there in my heart and by my side. Now I can't walk from one building to another without escorts, help, and hugs. No, never alone (to quote an old hymn)....ever.
To my church, family, and friends,
Thank you from the deepest part of my heart for the spiritual strength that you have given me. Thank you for the support that has met many needs. Thank you for the prayers that bring me to the throne of grace. Thank you for love that encourages me more than you will ever know. You are ever in my prayers.
