CHAPTER 3: MIGHTY RUSHING WIND
At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came as a powerful wind (think tornado). There was no mistaking His arrival. And His arrival marked a new chapter in how God deals with (and works through) people. He was bringing together His people (church is not primarily a place to go but a people who go). The tongues of fire on each person showed that every believer would have the presence and power of God with them wherever they went. You and I are called to “Go and tell.”
Those first believers (like us) were simple people from Galilee (think ‘Duck Dynasty’) and they were commissioned to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world. Through the book of Acts, nearly every experience of the Holy Spirit’s power came outside the church!
Acts 8:1, 4 1On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. … 4Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.
Jesus’ followers acted as priests (i.e., taking people to God and God to people). This is what Peter wrote about when he said that we are ‘royal priests’ (see 1 Peter 2:9). Regardless of the excuses we may make, this is our calling in the world.
The Holy Spirit can’t help but talk about Jesus and the Holy Spirit lives in us. It makes sense that we would talk about Jesus as we go about our lives. Image knowing me for 15 years and not knowing that I was married to a girl named Jana. You would rightly wonder about my love of her. It is just as odd that followers of Jesus would fail to mention the most important Person in their life – Jesus.
This week, look for ways to talk about Jesus as you go about your life.

This chapter has been my favorite so far! The discussion about the excuses we (I!) have used to not proclaim the Word of God to others is convicting, but motivating.
